Police – reporting crime

101 / Online reporting

Did you know that if you telephone 101 and don’t want to be kept on hold you can request a call back without losing your place in the queue?

If the caller phones between 8am and 10pm when Switchboard is open – unless the lines are extremely busy, the caller will speak to a switchboard operator first. The switchboard operator will pro-actively tell callers about call back assist and then put the caller through to the 101 call handler. Once they put the caller through to a 101 call handler, then they will be automatically offered to either wait or use call back assist. (All done through their phone keypad)

If someone calls before 8am or after 10pm, then they will get an automated message asking them if they want to use call back assist or not (this is after they hear the Chief Constable’s message).

The force also encourages online reporting via their online portal as an alternative to 101 to report non-emergency incidents.

In order to report on line you will need to register and create an account. This is to ensure that contact details are available should you need to be contacted for further information during the investigation. Once registered you can simply log in to report.

Within the portal you will also be able to track the status of your report, read a number of knowledge items relating to your incident, and live chat with members of the force.
